Our sovereign God moves in ways we cannot always understand, in order to accomplish God’s work of sal- vation. I like to think of God as using “soft” verbs when talking with us. That is, God welcomes, in- spires, invites...so gracious to us in beckoning us to participate in the ongoing work of Word and Spirit which is of God’s impetus. The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8 that the gift of the Spirit qualifies us as “children of God.” We need God’s leadership!
Let us thank the Holy Spirit this day for its nearness to us, blessing us in the necessary little things of life. We can also thank the Holy Spirit for the gift of its distance, as it surrounds us in mystery, magni- tude, and wonder of creation. Over our tired lives, the breath of God has warmed our cooled hearts. When our faith has seemed dry and dead, God has breathed upon us and gave us hope. When we have- n’t meant to worship and praise, God has stood be- side us to stir our souls. Thank God for the Pente- cost season!!
Peace, Pastor Gary
