In Mark’s Gospel, everything is sped up. We read the word “immediately” over 40 times in Mark. Jesus is pushing the tempo to bring in the new realm of God. He can’t wait to feed his disciples another day or heal a man’s hand tomorrow. The King-
dom of God is right now! Here we have Jesus offering new life “immediately” and the religious leaders hold back, debate, raise objections, and wait.
I wonder how Jesus has fed you? I won- der how Jesus has touched you miracu- lously? He has done both for me, time and time again. When we open the Bible and read about Jesus, we encounter how things became loose, got unstuck, became strange, in order that there would be healing and restoration. You and I, we need to come forth with our stories, too. Go forth, go home and tell everyone how much God in Christ has done for you. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy; that is, remember how the Sabbath is a gift, just as Jesus is a gift.
Peace, Pastor Gary
