We are talking stewardship these days at Dayton Avenue. Yesterday we kicked off our annual stewardship drive. When we give money to our church, we are declaring that our hands are up in praise. We are telling the world that we see Jesus. The early disciples can still teach us a lot. Their allegiance to Jesus was total, without hesitation or regret, all for the cause to which Christ called them.
As Christians, we can be devoted to many and various things. Our families, our church, our jobs, our education, our reputation, and whatever else beckons us to pay attention. But as the early disciples demonstrated, our devotion to Christ is our first and primary allegiance. We are called by Christ to be faith-filled witnesses of our faith. By being stewards of our church, we are putting Christ at the top of the list. Giving brings the best out of us. It brings Christ out of us!! Together, we can move mountains.
