That’s the message of our early Advent readings in scripture. Like yesterday, for instance. In worship we heard in Mark that God is coming, whether we like it or not. Be prepared! Stay awake! God will have us! We don’t know the hour or the time. Or the place, for that matter. In listening to people describe God’s incursions into their lives, I have been impressed by the nature of God’s contacts with us. Not only does God come to comfort us, and to give us strength, but God comes to bring us hope. And that hope may surprise us in its newness and freshness.
This is Advent. It’s the season of visions, and visitations, and the incursions of Christ among us. Be expectant. Stay alert. Christ loves to come in our midst in manners that blindside us. God is free, sovereign, able to come and go as God pleases. Be careful. That knock on the door could be you know who! And he is looking for some room in each of our inns!
Peace, Pastor Gary
