Thanksgiving … the First Sunday of Advent … FaithQuest2015/Confirmation
…We Did It All!
By now the after effects of Thanksgiving are most likely under control for our households; left-overs either eaten or frozen. Company settled safely in their homes. Work Schedules back to normal. I pray that everyone had a blessed time and the spiritual aspects of the holiday were at the forefront of your weekend activities!
Any quiet time off Thursday and Friday around DAPC (your ministers all had the holiday & Friday off – thank you!) was certainly overwhelmed by Saturday andSunday. IT WAS A VERY FULL WEEKEND! Saturdaywas prep time for Sunday --- the First Sunday of Advent and the celebration of the Completion of FaithQuest 2015. How does a Presbyterian congregation, historically not greatly oriented toward baptism by immersion, respond when one of its confirmands asks to take the plunge? With “energy, intelligence, IMAGINATION and love” * So on Saturday, as the sanctuary was being transformed for Advent, Fellowship Hall was being transformed into a baptistery – with a little help from Mills Fleet Farm and a “Little Giant 40 gallon Livestock Tub” and several dark blue fleece blankets ala Menards (note the emphasis on imagination above)! So all waited in readiness for the BIG DAY!
Sunday was indeed a VERY Big Day for DAPC and New Life Presbyterian as we shared a service to begin Advent and to celebrate the Confirmation of FaithQuest 2015 … two congregations - one service; two locations (4.0 miles/12 minutes apart) – one celebration! It all began at DAPC with the baptism of Jackson Gienger in the newly created baptistery in Fellowship hall – what a powerful moment of Holiness and Community! Many blessings and thanks for all the FaithQuest’ers and families and DAPC members who arrived early to be the congregation that surrounded Jackson for this sacrament! Then to the melodious(?) sound of vuvuzelas to “Prepare The Way With Loud Sounding Trumpets” the worship service continued: three more baptisms (Amy M. Mang, Anthony Charles Holley and Andrica J.E.A. Luster) –Hallelujah!; presentation and interpretation of “The Good News: FaithQuest 2015” ** - (GREAT JOB - Amy, MargaretAnn, Romaney & Ysabella!) before the congregation uplifted its voice in the FQ Affirmation of Faith; concluding with the confirmation of DAPC’s FQ participants! Welcome to the Covenant Community of Jesus – Amy, Jackson, MargaretAnn, Romaney and Ysabella! Then it was out the door into the cars and off to New Life where the NLPC crew repeated all of the above for their congregation! Welcome to the Covenant Community of Jesus, Daley, Jack, Kailen, Lizzie and William! And many blessings and mountains of gratitude for all the families and congregational members that contributed to the great success of FaithQuest 2015: menu makers and food purchasers; Lynn Paulfranz for sharing Casper the Friendly Van for one last time; Allie and Barbara and Eli for chaperoning and caring for this incredible group, Pastor Riz for his technical skills and being such a wonderful partner in teaching and sharing; the folks of Pejuhutazizi Presbyterian and Upper Sioux Community for the gift of hospitality and faith, Aldrich Avenue Presbyterian, Church of the Way and All Saints Episcopal for hosting FQ2015 retreats … and everyone who mentored, prayed, transported and rejoiced with this phenomenal group of young Christians!
