Dr. Robert Morris, Minister of Music for Dayton Avenue, has wanted to do something to make Pentecost a more meaningful Christian holiday. After Easter, Christmas, Palm Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Advent and Lent, Pentecost is almost ignored. Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in the form of flames, is the start of the Christian Church (Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 2, Verses 1 to 12. We are seeking mixed quartets (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). If you do not have a complete quartet, please let us know and we will find the missing voice you need. Do I have to be a professional singer? No. Since rehearsals will be very limited, some ability to read music will be necessary. What will I wear? Whatever you wear in your performance organization is preferred. If not in a performance organization, wear "business casual", no formal wear. (Men - no suit jackets!) What are the costs involved? $10 per singer will cover the cost of music, materials, instrumentalists, and equipment rental. The cost will be the responsibility of the individual singer and should be paid by Saturday, May 1. Checks should be made out to DAPC, with Pentecost Exaltation in the memo line. All other costs will be borne by the Outreach & Congregational Growth Commission of Dayton Avenue. Where is the event? He has conducted at Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall in Chicago and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Morris is an Arthur J. Schmitt Fellow, a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a life member of the American Choral Directors Association, and has served on the board of Chorus America. Why is this event being held? Pentecost is the least celebrated Christian holiday. The Gift of the Holy Spirit was the beginning of the Church. Will the performance reflect the religious preferences of the Presbyterian Church? No, the music will come from a variety fo Christian traditions and will not be oriented towards any particular church. What kind of music will be in the program? Anthems, hymns, spirituals, and gospels. Approximately 10 pieces will be performed. How do you get to DAPC?
